Finishing touches in my blue haven:

My blue haven

May is the month of renovations at the Carson house. We are going to list our house to sell on Monday. (Know anyone that wants a beautiful 1915 home?) We're staying in Auburn...want some more elbow room!

Sweat, a few tears, and yes even some blood has gone into these renovations. Much painting, wallpapering, painting, dejunking, more dejunking.....it's a long process.

However, it's therapeutic and empowering also!

Here is one finished room. Our Master Bedroom! You probably never saw it, and that was intentional on my part. At first it was old gold and green wallpaper on three walls and on the 4th - hunting dogs. I lie not to you. Then, a few years back my dear mother in law carefully peeled and steamed off all the yucky wallpaper. She's great, I know! Alas, underneath was damaged plaster with layers of bumpy other plastery stuff. So it was drywall or find another solution.

New solution found, wallpaper designed for "problem walls"! Here is the result:

And the walls came tumblin' down

After 4 1/2 years and about 4 different plans for our kitchen, work has finally begun. We designed the layout ourselves, Mark is doing 90% of the work himself....needless to say it should be interesting. I am assuming that it will take months to finish, which is hopefully a realistic expectation.

Mark started while I was away last week. The first step is tearing out the old lath and plaster (if you don't know what that is come by sometime and I'll show you! ;-) ) in the back half of the kitchen, where our table was. And now he is on to building a wall to make a pantry. It's a beautiful mess!

At some point in this process I will probably need to be committed to the asylum (do they still have those?), but for now I'm surviving the dust and chaos.

I will update progress, but nothing new will happen on it until later in September as the rest of August is filled with vacation and camping time.
