Monday was day 4 of our trip, and the one day we had specific times we had to be places. The only morning we woke up really early too! After breakfast we headed off on foot to the Library of Congress Tour. It was our first few of the Capitol Building and it was exciting to be standing there in the middle of all that history!!
The library of congress (http://www.loc.gov/index.html) was one of our favorite places. The tour starts out with a short video that tells you just some of the millions of treasures it contains. Some you can see on dispaly, some you could request to see, and a lot of them available online. Amazing resources about the history of our country digitally preserved.
On display we saw the Gutenburg bible, the original books Thomas Jefferson donated after the first library burned (those were amazing), ancient and more modern maps, including the first map that shows the "Americas" on it (WOW) and so much more.
I apologize for the sheer volume of pictures for this entry, but it was hard to limit which ones I put here.

The library looks so fantastic!!! I can't wait to go there someday.
Wow. Incredible. Those are some great photos. Which picture did Peter take--the one above or the one below?

Hi, I fixed his photo so you could tell which one it is. It's the lamppost one.
Isn't that place amazing?!!! I'm so glad you gave your kids that experience. I hope it helped them appreciate our great country even more.
I want that 'They are never' alone sign up somewhere in my home! that is so cool!
However, I think for my family's purposes it would need one of those changing "The doctor is in/out" signs ala Peanuts, so that Noble can be switched out with Crazy.
I love that idea! Especially changing it to crazy thoughts. Those kinds of quotes were everywhere there, over doors and entryways....
